Use: INDOOR/OUTDOOR
Heartwood ranges from pinkish to brownish or yellowish, with a whitish sapwood distinct from the heartwood; the grain is often wavy or interlocked, with a fine texture.
Joinery, boat decks, flooring strips, furniture, interior decor, shingles, and mouldings; plywood and sliced veneers for decorative purposes.
Use: INDOOR
Heartwood is naturally light pinkish-brown. In Europe, it is conditioned with steam, which gives it a uniform reddish-brown hue. Some logs may show deep red patches or darker veining. The grain is straight with a fine and even texture.
High-class joinery, solid and laminated furniture, desks and workbenches, chairs, heels, sports equipment, toys, bobbins, tool handles, woodturning, musical instruments, domestic flooring, and heavy constructions. Veneers display beautiful flecked patterns on quartersawn surfaces and broad rays on longitudinal surfaces.
Use: INDOOR
Heartwood color ranges from cream to light brown (typically indistinct from the sapwood); straight grain with a coarse and even texture.
Sports equipment (rackets, hockey sticks, polo mallets, gym apparatus, cricket stumps, cues); boat fittings, canoes, oars, tillers, beams, and deck frames; furniture, chairs, agricultural tools, vehicle bodies, bentwood shapes; decorative woodturning, laminated articles; plywood, decorative veneers (furniture, paneling), and marquetry.
Use: INDOOR
Pale brown sapwood that fades into a more or less deep reddish heartwood, sometimes variegated (creating a distinctive two-tone effect); grain is not always straight, with a medium texture.
Civil and naval construction, flooring, furniture, interior decor, sculpture; plywood and decorative veneers.
Use: INDOOR
Distinctive sapwood ranging from yellowish-white to pinkish, with a heartwood that is pink or brownish-pink. Once seasoned, it takes on a reddish-brown hue; it is a resinous wood. The grain and texture are influenced by the geographical area and the specific growth conditions of the species.
Furniture, joinery, woodturning, and construction. For window and door frames, Swedish, Finnish, and Russian timber is preferred due to its thin, regular growth rings, which provide high uniformity.
Use: INDOOR/OUTDOOR
Heartwood ranges from light yellowish-brown to biscuit with slight pinkish hues; sapwood is whitish-brown or yellowish and clearly distinct. Straight grain with a characteristic silver figure on quartersawn surfaces; texture ranges from medium to coarse.
Furniture, cabinet making, joinery, load-bearing structures, flooring, parquet, floor strips, church pews and pulpits; boat building, rungs, ladders, agricultural tools, barrels, and caskets; plywood and sliced veneers for decorative purposes.
Use: INDOOR/OUTDOOR
Heartwood ranges from light yellowish-brown to olive brown (variegated with olive green, dark grey, or pinkish brown); the whitish variegated sapwood is very wide and clearly distinct. Straight and uniform grain with a fine, regular texture. Steel-blue veining may occur due to mineral deposits.
Mouldings, cabinet making, furniture, interior joinery; light construction, interior boat trimmings, toys, and doors; sliced veneers for decorative purposes. Following preservative treatment, it is used for exterior joinery and structures not in contact with the ground.
